Focused on a holistic view of children’s play and supporting this free-play rather than ‘teaching’, this qualification will give you the underpinning knowledge and practical skills to become an advocate for play in all its forms.
The course is comprised of Two Units:
Facilitate Outdoor Play
Purpose and Aim: To enable the facilitation of outdoor play in the natural environment, linked to holistic development.
Understanding the benefits and risks of using the outdoors as a learning environment, looking at the background and context of modern outdoor learning.
Learning how to take a holistic approach to implement Outdoor Learning and how to get everyone ‘on board’ with your plans.
Planning and delivering seasonal outdoor learning by building specific skills and confidence in a range of areas that can be developed and enhanced in school grounds and in the local environment.
Sustainable Use of Natural Resources
Purpose and Aim: To enable understanding of ecology and use of natural resources for learning.
Knowing how to sustainably manage and improve outdoor learning environments. Looking at ecological structures in the natural environment and identifying species in our own local natural environments.
Looking at the wider context of learning outside the classroom and making plans to use your local natural and built environment in curriculum delivery.
Assessment is based on completion of a portfolio, including an evaluation of practical skills and delivering at least 2 Outdoor Play Sessions.
